Focused on practical iprovement
On 27 May 2025, representatives from the Port of Elbląg and K2 Solutions visited the Venkon Gdańsk terminal to evaluate a prevention cover used during dry bulk cargo operations. The original design required modifications based on operational experiences. Key improvements identified include replacing the original wooden base with a more durable steel construction, adding a rear-facing rubber gasket to ensure a safe yet effective seal against ship hulls, and ensuring the capture bin for spillages (PMMC 250 self-unloading hopper) is structurally independent and equipped with steel wheels and forklift-compatible features. Additionally, steel wheels are recommended for the main cover frame due to the rapid wear of pneumatic tires.
The use of a protective tarpaulin was also considered but deemed impractical due to its short lifespan and frequent replacement requirements. The meeting outcomes provided valuable, practical recommendations to enhance the robustness and functionality of prevention covers for ongoing and future port operations.
