What is PortHAZ?
PortSHAZ: Enhanced Eco-Efficient Cargo Operations
PortSHAZ is a project that helps ports in the South Baltic region handle dry bulk cargo, like fertiliser, in a safer, cleaner way. Ports are important for trade, but can also harm the sea if cargo leaks. We work to fix that. PortSHAZ finds simple, smart solutions so ports can grow while keeping the Baltic Sea clean and healthy
Our Mission
Less Spill. More Protection.
PortSHAZ is here to stop dry cargo—like fertilizer from leaking into the sea. These spills harm the water, sea life, and people living near the coast. We’re working on easy-to-use tools and smart ways to handle cargo so ports can run smoothly without hurting the environment.
Project Goals
We build smart tools to stop cargo spills during loading and unloading.
We help ports manage their work in a way that’s better for the environment.
We connect ports across the South Baltic to share ideas and learn from each other.
We support small and medium businesses at ports to work more cleanly and efficiently.
Strategic Approach
How PortSHAZ Works
We take simple, smart steps to make ports cleaner and more efficient:
Research first – We study how ports handle dry cargo across Europe to find what works and what doesn’t.
Test real solutions – We try out new tools and ideas in real ports, then improve them based on what we learn.
Share what we know – We create easy-to-read guides that show the risks of cargo spills and how to prevent them.
Learn together – We bring people together through events and training so ports can share ideas and work better, together.
Work Packages
What PortSHAZ is built on
PortSHAZ is made up of four main parts that keep the project running and focused:
Teamwork & planning – We ensure all partners stay connected and the project stays on track.
Spotting risks – We look at how port activities can harm the environment and find better ways to prevent it.
Smart tools – We design and test new solutions to stop cargo spills and protect the sea.
Clear strategy – We create simple guidelines to help ports and local authorities across the South Baltic work in greener, safer ways.
